The Hesley Group provides 52-week a year residential, care, education and vocational services for children and adults, all of whom have complex needs, challenging behaviours and severe learning difficulties, arising from autism.

Its mission is to enhance the lives of the individuals entrusted to its services by focusing on their specific needs, capabilities and aspirations. This enables them to reach their full potential and achieve a progressively independent quality of life through:

  • Person-centred focus: This covers education/life-long learning, care, communication, health, behaviour, recreational/vocational programmes, emotional well being and citizenship. Individuals are encouraged to participate in activities and empowered to make supported decisions
  • Life-long learning: Is focused on providing education and vocational opportunities tailored to suit the specific needs and aspirations of each individual.
  • Communication: Speech and Language Therapists work with each person to develop appropriate communication methods
  • Citizenship: By creating a safe, predictable and stimulating environment all individuals are active members of their community, which leads to meaningful social inclusion.
  • Trust and relationships: Secure and familiar social networks are extremely important and these are developed and built upon from day one, creating trusting and valued relationships with not only the individual we care for, but also their immediate and extended family and friends.
  • High quality accommodation & facilities: Each individual has their own bedroom, the majority of which are en-suite, in a range of shared houses/flats or self-contained flats/bungalows. In addition there are a range of excellent on-site facilities to compliment and enrich the lives of students and residents.
  • Professional services: A dedicated team including Carers, Teachers, Education and Vocational Tutors, Assistant Psychologists, Clinical Psychologists, Psychiatrists and Speech and Language Therapists ensure that individuals have immediate access to the services they require.

Over 50 Local Education Authorities, Adult Social Services Departments and Primary Care Trusts throughout the UK entrust The Hesley Group for placements

UK Kent Autistic Trust - THE FATHERS’ CLUB

THE FATHERS’ CLUB
(Support and guidance for fathers of autistic children)

Across the county of Kent there is a unique group that seeks to help the fathers of children with an autistic spectrum condition. This is achieved through informal monthly evening meetings at centres in the areas of Dartford, Maidstone and Folkestone.

In addition to the meetings there is a library of relevant book titles available for loan and every member receives a copy of ‘THE REPORT’, a bi-monthly newsletter. This keeps all fathers informed on the activities of the Club and is used to disseminate information of mutual interest.

The club maintains links with other related groups, has assisted in numerous research projects since it was formed in January 2003 and is regularly represented at conferences and discussion groups to raise the profile and interest of its members.
